Hands in the dirt, digging out weeds and handfuls of worms, listening to the birds and the rain falling around me. It smells wonderful, the wisteria is blooming surrounding me with a heady honey scent, the mixture of dirt and rain mixed together is one of my favourite smells. Add in the tomato vines I just brushed whilst planting them in a disorganised row through coriander seedlings I am crushing under my feet from last year’s forgotten bunch that self seeded, and you’re left with quite the spring perfume. I can see a red robin a few meters away digging in the dirt I just moved looking for a tasty treat. Oh my I love Spring!
I didn’t think I could get a quick plant nursery run today as it is Easter Monday after all and most places are closed, but not my favourite family run nursery called Rotherhill. I love it there. They grow over 80% of their own plants, importing very little, and their seedlings are lush and healthy. You can tell they’ve poured a lot of love into them.
I am an enthusiastic gardener, I am by no means an expert, I started gardening on my own a few years ago on our sunny terrace in London. Each year I learn more and experiment with new plants. I would consider myself a rather chaotic gardener, I over research and cannot for the life of me make any decisions so I naturally end up totally winging it and hoping for the best. I have had my fair share of failures (last year comes to mind when an army of slugs devoured half of the veggie patch) but once in a while it works, and it makes it all worth it (bucket full of tomatoes, or fresh salad, and crunchy radishes)
